| Devils Lake, ND is a small community (population approximately 8,000) in north central North Dakota and is well known as a sportsman’s paradise with excellent fishing and hunting. Despite Devils Lake’s reputation as frequently being named by the Weather Channel as the coldest place in the nation, the warmth of the people who live or have lived there was clearly demonstrated on Saturday, Sept. 13 when a benefit/silent auction was held Heide. The day began with a 5k “Fun Run” at Ruger Park organized by Tammy Riggin, Lisa Ripplinger, and Cindy Schmidt in Heide’s name. The 100 or so participants were supplied with t-shirts, number tags, water, coffee, bagels and donuts and enjoyed a lovely fall morning promoting health and fitness by either running, walking or pushing strollers. Dick and Louise Prozinski hosted a “Steak Fry Dinner and Silent Auction” at their restaurant/bar, Proz End of the Line & Caboose. This event brought hundreds of people out for a wonderful meal and, more importantly, a chance to get together and demonstrate support for Heide in her battle with cancer. The silent auction was hugely successful due to the outpouring response of donated items given by family, friends and strangers from all corners of the USA!!!! People traveled from near to far to attend this event. Heide was not able to attend the event due to the need to remain in California to continue radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The total amount of money raised is unreal, but what I cannot put a price tag on is the true LOVE, SUPPORT, and WORDS OF KINDNESS that were directed to Heide and her family. Devils Lake is more than a recreational community that offers hunting and fishing. Devils Lake is a loving community that I am proud to call home. Thank you, Margie Hannesson (Heide’s Twin Sister) Thank you to ALL of you that made this possible: Heide, Ric, Genevieve and Ava- You made this possible due to your wonderful love, strength, optimistic views, and kindness.
